In Search of Deep Self at the End of Love

Writer's picture: Mario MartinezMario Martinez

When a relationship ends, belongingness, joy, and companionship are returned to selfhood. Although the physicality of a lost partner cannot be replicated, there's a realm of our Deep Self that can ameliorate the longing and fill the physical void. While mind cannot reconstruct what no longer occupies time and space, the qualities that gave significance to an absent occupant were projected from Deep Self when worthiness was bestowed.

The recovery task requires identifying the qualities that elevated the beloved to a place of magic. Perhaps invincibility, hope, creativity, courage, or even glimpses of immortality, were some of the gifted projections that now appear lost. Yet, all are attributes residing immutably in Deep Self to be cultivated with or without a partner.
